Through those 7 new titles, Dirge creates a setting of their own, definitely, on the intimate side, in a mood of confessions and helplessness against a creeping melancholy and the failure of a relationship... Wether on the light side, almost ironic as on the self proclaimed 'summer single' ( on wich you might recognise the voice of cyann from cyann and ben) or with feverish taking offs, the theme of absence becomes the natural thread of this record, for a music wich proudly assumes its dark sides.
The memories are passing by, the lyrics focus on past tenses, and in a sense this dry voice might remind you more of the songwriting of bands such as arab strap or the early day miners than those of your classical post rock band. What can't be told will be whispered, without any need for a wall of sound. The singer, Yann will tell you the same 'the rest can't be said', in his slightly disanchanted tone. So quite often, the instruments will have to finish the sentences to fullfill the blank spaces.
A feeling called nostalgia finds in 'rebecca' the perfect casket.
